Ironman Champion Normann Stadler Joins Carmichael Training Systems
Colorado Springs, CO – Normann Stadler, 2004 and 2006 Ironman World Champion and captain of Team Dresdner Kleinwort, has joined the team of world-class athletes who have chosen to work with Carmichael Training Systems. He joins 2008 Ironman World Champion Craig Alexander and Olympic Triathlon Gold Medalist Simon Whitfield on the growing roster of champion triathletes coached by CTS. Stadler, who holds the course record for the bike split (4:18:23) at the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii, will be under the watchful eyes and guidance of CTS Founder Chris Carmichael, and coached directly by CTS Pro Coach Lindsay Hyman.
While cycling has always been Stadler’s strength, he and Hyman will be working to further improve his energy management on the bike in an effort to deliver him to the run with greater energy reserves. Toward this end, Stadler will undergo physiological testing as well as aerodynamic testing in the wind tunnel. His 12th place finish at the 2008 Ironman World Championships marked a strong return to Kona, and now he is once again aiming to stand on the podium in Hawaii.
“Normann is a tremendous athlete and a great champion, and I’m very happy he’s going to be working with CTS on his training, nutrition, and race preparation,” stated Carmichael. “We have a proven track record for not only developing champions but also improving the performance of athletes who are already among the world’s best.” Carmichael is best known for providing the expert direction and guidance which helped Lance Armstrong win seven Tour de France championships, as well as assisting Peter Reid to an Ironman World Championship in 2000.
While Chris Carmichael will be reviewing Normann’s training data and progress, CTS Pro Coach Lindsay Hyman will be creating the triathlon champion’s periodization plan and training program, and communicating with him about his daily training. Coach Hyman commented, ”We’re not out to make radical changes to Normann’s training or nutrition programs just for the sake of doing something new. He’s a proven champion and a smart trainer, but after looking at some preliminary data I believe that some small modifications to his recovery and nutrition strategies will further improve his race day performance.
The move to Carmichael Training Systems is just one of several changes Stadler has made in his training and equipment recently. He’s recently spent time with in Boulder, Colorado, a change from his normal training grounds of San Diego, California, and he changed bike sponsors within the last year. While in Boulder in December, more than two months after the 2008 Ironman World Championships, he also checked in with the bike-fit professionals at Retul.
“In 2008 in Kona I was leading the race halfway through the marathon and then finished 12th. That was a disappointing performance for me because I’ve run down Alii Drive twice as a champion,” commented Stadler. “CTS understands that winning Ironman is about managing your strengths and having a good nutrition plan so you have a great run, and I look forward to working with Lindsay and Chris to have a great race in Kona in 2009.”
Founded in 2000 by Olympian, US Olympic Committee Coach of the Year, and bestselling author, Chris Carmichael, Carmichael Training Systems (CTS) inspires and empowers the athlete in every body to perform at their best. Delicious: Chicken breast with brocoli
I’ve been asked many times, how I subsist concerning my sport, because the nutrition is an important factor. I’ve got a concrete bill of fare, but beside the competitions, I also just eat what I like. In preparation for the races, I’m eating really disciplined and prepare a nutritional protocol with my team.
In cooperation with the Triathlon Magazine Sonja Schleutker-Franke just established the new cookbook, “The Triathlon-Citchen”. 50 Topstars introduce their favourite recipes. Next to Jan Frodeno, Daniel Unger, Natascha Badmann, Faris Al-Sultan and Thomas Hellriegel I was also asked for a recipe tip: Chicken breast with broccoli – very delicious, low fat, low calories and full of proteins. In the category “Inside” of our team homepage, you also find all details for cooking this recipe. Just another hint from my side: instead of 200ml sweet cream, take 200ml sour cream, both very yummy, just try and see what’s more tasty for you.
For further information to the cookbook visit the Spomedis Online-Shop.
Have a lot of fun and success with cooking the recipes of the Triathlon stars and enjoy your meal.

And the winner is: Dresdner Kleinwort Iron I
Maik, Marino, Jan and I really wanted to give our best with “Dresdner Kleinwort Iron I” by the end of the season in Frankfurt. But it really wasn’t that easy. The start at Ironman Hawaii was just two weeks ago. I knew as a finisher that the welcome in the festival hall is going to be special. I was very optimistic for my run after my three boys of the team really put forward. Finally we were as good as last year’s winner Melanie Kraus, who finished third this year. According to that fact the atmosphere in festival hall was even more ingenious. The Fans cheered for us so much that we finished after 2:27:25 hours – with seven minutes ahead until the second team. Our team colleagues Markus, Scott and Mathias made with the “Host Runner” Klaus Born the forth place.
At this point I want to say thank you for the very good organisation and support. It was really a lot of fun and I’m already excited for next year!

Looking back on Hawaii 2008
I arrived at home in Mannheim after eight weeks stuffed with training sessions. I’m excited about seeing my family and friends. The first thing I did was getting out my winter jacket. After a hard race like this is the immune system still really exhausted and the temperatures already look like winter in Germany.
I’m looking back on the Ironman with mixed feelings. With finishing twelfths I definitely stayed below my expectations. I trained exceeding with my team and was very motivated for the race. But then I came that I couldn’t recall my performance on the most important day of the season. After two difficult years, it is still positive that I finished an Ironman again. It makes me happy to see, how the fans support me and write emails that they are impressed by my militancy.
I was very excited about the good results from Mathias and Maik. Both of them showed that they can keep up with the big ones of the starting field. In my view Mathias was a favourite for the top ten from the beginning on. There can happen a lot in the starting field of the toughest race in the world. His eighth place is worth to be cherished and he definitely established himself in the top field of the triathlon sport. Maik couldn’t believe his 14. Place after the race. Everybody knew, how good he is, but just a few make a result like this with the first time starting. Marino and Scott deserve a lot respect for their overall season result, which they couldn’t finish appropriate on Big Island. Congratulations also to the winner Craig Alexander and second place winner Eneke Lionas. We all pull of ones hat to their great running performance and excited about competing with them in the next years. The winter is going to be hard!

Convincing team performance, disappointed Normann Stadler at Ironman Hawaii
The athletes of the Dresdner Kleinwort Triathlon Team convinced with a compact team performance at Ironman Hawaii. Mathias Hecht was able to keep up and finished eightth in 8 :34 :02, only 12 seconds after Andy Potts of the USA. The Suisse had the best result of the whole team. After a successful season, he is now finally established in the world elite.
It was Maik Twelsiek with place 14 who reached an excellent result at his debut at the world championship.
The two time Hawaii Champion Normann Stadler enhanced during the bike leg and took over the leadership at the beginning of the marathon. During the run leg, the team captain was tortured by cramps but never thought of giving up. Place 12 is for the success spoilt Mannheimer disappointing.
Marino Vanhoenacker started as one of the secret favourites but could not find his way in the race. Place 22 is far behind his possibilities.
Craig Alexander finished first. Place two was the Spaniard Eneco Llanos and Rutger Beke from Belgium.
Results:
1. Place Craig Alexander (08:17:45)
2. Place Eneko 08:20:50 (08:20:50)
3. Place Rutger Beke (08:21:23)
…
8. Place Mathias Hecht (08:34:02)

Interview with Diana Bertsch, the organisator of the Ironman World Championship
What does the thirtieth birthday of the Ironman Hawaii mean to you?
I am proud and honored to be a part of Ironman's 30th Anniversary. Throughout its growth and history, Ironman remains an awe-inspiring event.
What is your personal highlight of 30 years Ironman Hawaii?
There are so many memorable highlights that it makes it challenging to choose just one. However, the journey leading into race day is always exciting as there are so many working parts within the Ford Ironman World Championship. The moment in which the last finisher crosses the line provides a feeling of true reward and accomplishment - the emotion at the finish line at midnight is unmatched.
What are in your opinion the vantages of teambuilding in triathlon sport and how do you notice them at the Dresdner Kleinwort Triathlon Team?
I believe team building is essential in life. The DKTT provides support to its members, which promotes personal growth and allows each individual to strive for excellence.
There are 29 Ironman Hawaii Champions. What do you remember thinking of Normann Stadler's victories in 2004 and 2006?
There is always something magical about the first athlete crossing the finish line on Ali'i Drive. The admiration, respect and energy that the spectators and volunteers exude for the champion's extraordinary victory is beyond compare.
Where do you see him and his team finishing on October 11th?
History has demonstrated that predicting a day in Kona is not possible. However, I wish Normann and all of the Dresdner Kleinwort Triathlon Team a day filled with personal success and an Ironman experience that is truly unforgettable.

Kona/Hawaii: The lull before the storm
After the arrival of Marino Vanhoenacker two weeks ago, his team colleagues Normann Stadler, Maik Twelsiek, Mathias Hecht and Scott Neyedli reached Hawaii today. Along the Alii Drive, the popular ocean road of Kona, more athletes are running and cycling along the street from day to day. Further outside, on the Queen K-Highway it looks the same. From the pier you can see already the buoys, which are marking the swimming course. Also the cafés, restaurants and souvenir shops are well prepared for the most important event of the year. The menus show special Ironman-Menus, Power Drinks and you can see all kind of Ironman merchandise products in the shops. Pioneers in the fight against doping
As part of its commitment, Dresdner Kleinwort is making concerted efforts to promote doping-free sport. The Dresdner Kleinwort has managed to secure the assistance of the German National Anti- Doping Agency (NADA), the German Triathlon Union (DTU) as well as Sylvia Schenk, a lawyer and internationally recognised anti-doping expert, in order to put together what is as yet a unique antidoping concept for the team. This provides that the team athletes will be tested ten to twelve times per year. There will also be
one to two pre-competition tests before every event carried out by NADA. Blood and urine samples will be frozen to enable later tests for insulin (in urine) and growth hormones (in blood) as well as other substances for which no tests are currently available. “The concept is based on zero “tolerance” – on this we can be measured”, explains Normann Stadler.

Trainings camp San Diego - Day 27: Interval training on the roll
This morning we had a 25 km run with 20 intervals of one minute each. Afterwards our legs were burning. In spite of the high training the atmosphere is still good – That is because of our final aim: Hawaii.
Our training includes interval training on the roll, as you can see on the photo. Generally we try to have variety in our daily training sessions. This time we trained in the shadow on the back porch. We really felt the missing airstream. We worked up to our maximum for about two hours and it was difficult drinking as much as we needed. Despite the effort, it was Mathias who made us laughing. He said: “We are drinking water like the dromedaries”. Thanks for that, Mathias!
Tomorrow we have a quiet easy day, followed by a hard training day on Thursday again. In the morning we will start with a 40 km run. In the afternoon we go for a 4 km swim and in the evening we have another 15 km run. After that our trainings amount will go ´downhill´. Tapering will be the order. The days until Hawaii are countet. Hawaii, we are coming!

Trainings Camp San Diego - Day 16: A region for the optimal Hawaii preparation
San Diego is an amazing city. The kilometre long white beaches, the pacific ocean and the mild sunny weather invite to relax. Unfortunately, after breakfast holiday feelings suddenly come to an end. At 07:30 in the morning when I am going for a cycling session the temperatures of 68°F are very welcome. Obviously, that is the perfect weather for long and hard training sessions. I feel very comfortable in California. Although our daily routine consists of training, eating and sleeping, the nice surrounding helps to keep motivated. It just makes things a lot easier if you stay in a nice and warm area. Whenever I was in San Diego I was preparing for IM Hawaii. For sure, one day I will come back on holiday. I just hope this will not happen in the next couple of years.
For the weekend we wish our team colleagues Markus and Scott all the best for their races in Wisconsin and UK. Scott defends his title at IM UK and I know that it is a very special feeling if you defend your title the year after. Markus is in a different position. He wants to qualify early for IM Hawaii 2009. He thinks, two years in Hawaii without him should be enough. Good luck, you guys.

Normann Stadler has to cancel IRONMAN Frankfurt due to illness: I absolutely wanted to participate but the doctors forbade it.
An insufficiently cured influenzal infection prevented the two-times Inronman Hawaii winner Normann Stadler from participating in the IRONMAN European Championships in Frankfurt. The captain of the Dresdner Kleinwort Triathlon Team had to give the bad news in the morning despite good preparation and a win at the International German Championship over the middle distance four weeks ago.
“I wanted to race at any cost but my doctors told me clearly that I would risk my health” says a disappointed Stadler. “If the doctors had not urgently advised me against competing, I would have raced with the last of my strength. I am endlessly sorry for my fans and sponsors. Now I will do my best to support my team colleagues Jan Raphael, Markus Fachbach and Maik Twelsiek in Frankfurt and to show what I am capable of in Hawaii.”

Normann Stadler: “I look forward to a riveting and hopefully successful 2008 season with new and old team mates!”
Moreover, a rigorous “zero tolerance’ anti-doping programme was presented which allows for more intense monitoring of the team members. This includes an increased testing frequency of up to 12 times per year, one to two NADA tests just before contests and a database of key values to be kept for each team member to facilitate long-term monitoring of results. Blood and urine samples will also be frozen to allow for future analysis of insulin and growth hormones and other substances which may not be detectable with current testing technology.

Normann Stadler and four of his Dresdner Kleinwort team mates have joined another training camp in Mallorca. Just a few weeks after camp one Normann Stadler, Jan Raphael, Markus Fachbach, Maik Twelsiek and Marino Vanhoenacker used the sunny island of Mallorca to get ready for the 2008 season. The Dresdner Kleinwort Triathlon Team took its base in Playa del Muro.
Normann Stadler: “That was a tough piece of work. I enjoy very much working out with the boys because it is motivating and it fires me up. Apart from the hard work, it was a lot of fun.”.

Normann Stadler winter training in Bavaria
Normann Stadler, team captain of the Dresdner Kleinwort Triathlon Team stays for seven days in the Bavarian town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen (D) for some winter training units. For a change, Normann Stadler begins the 2008 triathlon season on cross-country skis in order to train his body’s strength and defences in the cold mountain air.
A highlight of the snow camp so far was a training day with Magdalena Neuner, the youngest ever triple-World Champion in women’s biathlon. The 20 year-old, who was named female German sportsperson 2007, showed the Hawaii world champion professional skiing techniques and taught him how to shoot on biathlon targets. Normann even proved to be a good marksman.
“Triathlon meets Biathlon – the training with Magdalena was great fun. The mountains, the fresh air and the snow are perfect for endurance training.”
Garmisch-Partenkirchen is also site of the traditional ski jumping contest on New Year's Day, as a part of the Four Hills Tournament.
Normann who spent New Year’s Eve in Garmisch, wishes „all fans, friends and sponsors a happy and successful 2008“!

Successful marathon debut for Norman Stadler and Jan Raphael
Two times Triathlon Hawaii World Champion Normann Stadler and his Dresdner Kleinwort Triathlon Team-mate Jan Raphael succeeded in the popular Dresdner Kleinwort Frankfurt Marathon.
Used to swim 3.8 km and ride the bike for another 180 km before entering the marathon track, this was the first Marathon only event for both athletes.
Cheered by massive crowds in the streets of Frankfurt, Normann Stadler achieved a very good 2:32:14 h. Despite finishing the Hawaii Ironman only two weeks ago, Dresdner Kleinwort team-mate Jan Raphael ran a respectable 2:42:34 h.
Both Dresdner Kleinwort triathletes raced faster than their target time of 2:50h. As a result, Normann Stadler and Jan Raphael collected 13,000 EUR for the charity organisation "Verein für krebskranke Kinder Frankfurt e.V."
Normann Stadler: „I wanted to finish this season with a good result. I owed this one to my fans and all the cancer children supported by the Verein krebskranke Kinder Frankfurt e.V. It was a great event and I thank Jo Schindler and his team as well as Dresdner Kleinwort for this opportunity.“

Normann Stadler and Jan Raphael start at the Dresdner Kleinwort Frankfurt Marathon for the benefit of the Verein krebskranke Kinder Frankfurt e. V.
Normann Stadler, two times Ironman-Hawaii champion and captain of the Dresdner Kleinwort Triathlon Team will take part in the Dresdner Kleinwort Frankfurt Marathon on Sunday 28th of October 2007 together with his team colleague Jan Raphael. Both athletes run for the benefit of the association „Hilfe für krebskranke Kinder Frankfurt e. V.“, an organisation which helps children who suffer from cancer.
Both athletes set themselves the target to finish the marathon in 2 hours and 50 minutes. If they succeed, they will donate 5.000 Euros each. If they run even faster, the amount is raised to 500 Euro for every 5 minutes. The amount will be rounded up for the benefit of the organisation.
„Even if I won’t run a new course record, I will give my very best to raise as much money as possible for the children – the children motivate me“, says Stadler.
This year’s marathon is very special for Dresdner Kleinwort, because it is named after the organisation.
The Investment banking-division of the Dresdner Bank AG holds the naming right for the Frankfurt Marathon until 2011. This underlines its close relationship to the city of Frankfurt and its significant position in Germany’s financial centre.
The cancer support association „Verein Hilfe für krebskranke Kinder Frankfurt“ was founded in 1983 by parents of suffering children and in association with the former manager of the Cancer Clinic for Children of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe Universität, Frankfurt , Mr. Prof. Dr. med. Bernhard Kornhuber.

Normann Stadler talks about his start at the Dresdner Kleinwort Frankfurt Marathon
Next Sunday 10 am, more than 12,000 athletes will start at the Dresdner Kleinwort Frankfurt Marathon. It goes without saying that Normann Stadler and Jan Raphael from the Dresdner Kleinwort Triathlon Team will start there, too. It will be the first time that Stadler runs a marathon as such.
“I will take part at the Dresdner Kleinwort Frankfurt Marathon. I have never run a marathon before. My best Ironman run time is 2:52 hours but I think I can achieve something like 2:27, 2:30 or 2:32. On Sunday I will do my best. Perhaps I will gauge myself on the women. I don´t think, that I will be the best man on Sunday. The run training is very important for a triathlete. In an ordinary week I run about 110 - 120 kilometres. Two days ago I ran about 25 kilometres along the river Neckar. My problem now is the cold weather here in Germany. I got used to the warm temperatures of San Diego and Hawaii.”

Normann Stadler feels fit again
5 days have passed since the 2007 Ironman World Championship in Hawaii. Plenty of time for Normann Stadler to cure the stomach flu that forced him to discontinue his race last Saturday.
”This was a year with ups and downs and I am not really satisfied with the race results but one thing is clear, the Norminator does not give up. I’ll be back next year and try to win my third title in Hawaii.”
Normann Stadler congratulated the new Ironman World Champion Chris McCormack as he crossed the finish line to his first victory in Hawaii. ”Macca was in better shape today. He deserves it.”
Normann Stadler will start at the Dresdner Kleinwort Marathon in Frankfurt on 28 October.

Health issues force Normann Stadler to discontinue the race
To win the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii, one needs nerves of steal, absolute fitness, efficient equipment and a grain of luck. Defending champion Normann Stadler missed that last ingredient today. Due to massive health issues, the race favourite could not finish the Ford Ironman World Championship 2007.
Earlier today, another German favourite had to cancel. Faris Al-Sultan could not start due to gastroenteritis.
Last night, Stadler had intestinal problems, but he wanted to start and defend his title. Despite his condition, Stadler was at the start at 6:45 to begin the race. After a good swim he came out of the water in a group of 30 athletes just 2 minutes behind the leaders. Although strong in the swim leg, the pain started pretty early on the bike. Stadler had to stop twice and get medical assistance. As his conditions did not improve, Normann Stadler had to discontinue 3 hours and 11 minutes into the race.

Faris Al-Sultan canceled the competition
At 6:45 am the Ironman Hawaii 2007 started for the pro-athletes. The athletes are now on the bike distance. Both athletes of the Dresdner Kleinwort Triathlon Team are in the leader group. Jan Raphael did a great swim-race and finished at 5th. Also the titleholder Normann Stadler came out of the water in the group of the first 30 athletes. Now he is fighting for the top on his bike. It will be an exciting competition!
One of the favourites had to cancel the competition this morning. Faris Al-Sultan is ill and can´t compete in the Ironman Hawaii this year.

Normann Stadler talks about his new Kuota bike
Only two days left until this year’s Ironman Hawaii start. To survive an Ironman you need a body of steel and an iron will. Triathlon is a question of nerves and also the experience counts a lot. The best age of an athlete is about 30. But sometimes also the biggest experience and the strongest nerves won’t help if the equipment doesn’t work as Normann Stadler had to learn in 2005. After a second bike damage he had to surrender. Therefore the right equipment is of great importance. Why is the new Kuota the right bike for you?
"The choice of my new bike wasn’t based on wind tunnel results. I took it out for a ride and I liked it. Now I’ve got a different sitting position than before. Therefore it’s more comfortable and I get more pressure on the pedal. Furthermore the aerodynamics got better and the brakes are hidden now. Of course, these design features won’t make me 20 minutes faster but who knows they might just make the difference in the end. “

Is Normann Stadler fit enough to win the ironman again?
The Countdown is ticking. On Saturday more than 1,800 athletes will be on the start in Kona at the Ironman Hawaii 2007. Two are the titleholder Normann Stadler und his Dresdner Kleinwort Triathlon Team member Jan Raphael.
Both athletes already completed all official duties, so the competition can start! Today was the pre-race press conference and Normann Stadler talked to the international media. Does Normann Stadler feel fit to win the Ironman Hawaii again?
“(laughing) Yes. I feel very good and if everything is fine on Saturday it will be very difficult for the other athletes to beat me. I am here to defend my title. But many things can happen in a competition…”

What does Normann Stadler think about Jan Raphael
Only three days left till the Ironman Hawaii 2007 and the tension rises every day but the athletes of the Dresdner Kleinwort Triathlon Team feel more and more excited. It is the first time for Jan Raphael from Hannover to take part in this competition. Both Normann and Raphael trained together with Markus Fachbach, who could not start in Hawaii this year. What does Normann Stadler think about Jan Raphael?
"San Diego was the best place to prepare myself for the Ironman Hawaii competition. For the first time my team members Jan Raphael and Markus Fachbach went on training camp with me. The group worked very well and we could learn from each other. A hand injury held Markus back on the bike. But it improved steadily and it looks like he will start well prepared at the Ironman Florida in November.
I think Jan Raphael can do a very good job and become one of the top ten athletes. He has never trained as hard as during the training camp in San Diego. He is tough, he is a real fighter. If need be he’ll pursue the man in front of him and will not let him off. This strength impressed me a lot and that is why I asked him to join the Dresdner Kleinwort Triathlon Team."

Competition preparation of Normann Stadler
The athletes of the Dresdner Kleinwort Triathlon Team have been on Hawaii now for a few days. Normann Stadler and his team member Jan Raphael began their daily training units to continue their preparation for the upcoming ironman competition. After the early morning swim program in the bay of Kailua-Kona, the next units were cycling and running. Both German athletes ran along the Queen Ka’Ahumanu Highway and the Kuakini Highway, on part of the 180km long bike distance to get used to the climate and the unusual terrain. Over the past few days, overcast skies kept the temperature at a comfortable 27° C or so. However, high humidity of 70% makes training more difficult for our athletes.
When asked about his form and preparation, team captain Normann Stadler answered:
"I think, my form is really good! My training is exactly like the years before. The only difference is that I don’t live directly in Kona but in the Four Seasons Resort, which is not far away from the city. I feel great here. I am away from all the ironman activities and can concentrate on the competition. Here, I find ideal training conditions and after training I get a massage from my own physiotherapist.
However, I still go for a swim with Jan Raphael in the morning at the pier in Kona, talk to the other athletes and fans and after training I relax with a cup of coffee in the Lava Java at the Alii Drive. I’m really looking forward to the competition next Saturday and keep on training.”

The last days before the Ironman Hawaii 2007
The countdown is on. The race week has begun and the tension is rising noticeably. More and more athletes, journalists and media teams arrive from all over the world. Everywhere athletes are seen preparing for the race, being interviewed by the media or just hanging around in the cafés at the Alii Drive. The athletes of the Dresdner Kleinwort Team, too, give daily press conferences between training units.
Of course the media attention rests again on this year’s titleholder and top favourite. How does Normann Stadler handle the pressure?
“I can live with this kind of stress very well. I’m happy that triathlon sport is more and more in the focus of public interest and that there is a growing number of enthusiastic followers. I can tell from the rising number of emails and letters that there are so many fans all over the world. Especially the support of my fans makes me happy and proud and provides me with an extra incentive to go the extra mile. What’s more, the number of interview requests and TV features shows that triathlon is gaining more and more popularity.”

Arrival on Hawaii
Today the Dresdner Kleinwort Triathlon Team arrived on Hawaii. After six weeks of hard and ambitious training on training camp in San Diego California, for Normann Stadler the final phase of the project Hawaii 2007 has begun.
Normann Stadler:
“We had an extremely tough but extremely good time in the training camp in San Diego. My two Dresdner Kleinwort team mates challenged me a lot during our training sessions. On the Island now, I take my time and prepare myself calmly for the things to come, than we will see.”
Jan Raphael:
“The training camp in San Diego together with Normann was definitely a big step forward for me. I am so curious about Hawaii and all the things waiting here for me.”

Training Camp San Diego
Normann Stadler’s intensive preparations for Hawaii entered the decisive stage. Yesterday his two Dresdner Kleinwort team mates, Jan Raphael and Markus Fachbach, joined him at the training camp in San Diego, California.
After a day of short acclimation Jan Raphael and Markus Fachbach will resume tough training in order to be prepared for the upcoming competitions. Normann and Jan are going to enter the Ironman World Championship Hawaii on October 13th while Markus starts at the Ironman Florida on 3rd of November.
The training schedule put together by team captain Normann Stadler includes joined bike sessions and long runs but also individual training units.
We train seven days a week and sessions on the bike alternate with demanding run sessions and we train swimming daily.
In contrast to this year’s cold and rainy European summer, the sports men find ideal training conditions in San Diego’s warm and sunny climate.
Normann is glad about the arrival of his team mates: ”It is always important to get new impulses during your daily training routine and to have some variation. In addition, everyone gains from collective training as every one of us has certain strengths and can push the others when swimming, cycling or running!”
The Dresdner Kleinwort Team will stay in San Diego until 2 October followed by Kona, on Big Island Hawaii.

Normann Stadler troubled by sore back during Frankfurt Ironman European Championships
Unexpected backache forced Hawaii Champion Normann Stadler to discontinue the Ironman Frankfurt after 150 kilometres on the bike.
“When I was swimming, I sprained my back at the first buoy. Later on the pain also affected my leg when I was on the bike. It got worse with every kilometre until I had to stop” the 34 year old said. “I feel really sorry for the audience that I had to quit the competition so early. It is a great pity that we have to postpone the thrilling duel between Faris Al-Sultan and myself until next time” Normann Stadler regrets. “For now, I congratulate Timo Bracht on his fantastic victory!”
